It's been said that leaders are readers and I'm inclined to believe that phrase. Are all readers leaders? No. But I believe true leaders are readers; they are people who are constantly learning and diligent to seek improvement.
This month my ebook His Story was launched, but mine is just one in a list of many to be released this fall. I want to take a few moments to recommend some of my new favorites. My goal is to connect you to the resources that will help you ditch self-focus, encourage you to finish what you start, and clarify your branding.
Let's dig in!
Free of Me by Sharon Hodde Miller
I am a selfish human being. This is not something that I'm wholly unaware of, but I didn't realize just how much of my life I have spent focusing on myself. In the book Free of Me, Sharon shares her personal experience of becoming free from focusing on herself. In the first chapter alone, I felt like she was reading my mail when she talked about how often we help others while still focusing on ourselves. Ouch! Despite the harsh wake-up call this book gives, it's presented with such kindness and empathy that you don't feel beaten down, but empowered to truly become free of me.
Finish: Give Yourself the Gift of Done by Jon Acuff
Jon Acuff is an insightful author and, seriously, if you're not following him on Twitter, go ahead and do that right now. You're welcome.
I suck at finishing things. Period. I'm great at starting projects but I struggle to see them all the way through. Jon, with real-life examples and silly anecdotes to spare, gives us profound thoughts about the mental blocks that keep us from finishing what we start. There is one chapter in there all about perfection that I have reread multiple times - as a recovering perfectionist, that chapter was just what I needed.
Dare to invest in yourself, your goals, and your dreams and take the time to digest this book! Give yourself the best gift you can: the gift of done!
Building a Story Brand by Donald Miller
Donald Miller has been one of my favorite authors for years and when he made the change from Christian writer to marketing expert, I was intrigued. This book gives you insights into how to clarify your message and eliminate confusion so that you can grow your brand. More than just a book about marketing and branding, Don invites you to make your customer the hero of the story, a shift that will help you better serve your clients!
Do yourself a favor: get the book, apply the principles, and see how your business and marketing will improve!
That's it for this month!
